LEIGHTON BUZZARD NORTH WARD

Labour – rebuilding Leighton Buzzard for the many, not the few…
Michael Bishop

Mike has lived in the ward for 40 years, raising his family here and becoming involved in a number of successful transport-related campaigns. He served for four years on the Town Council, where he found most of the problems affecting his constituents were CBC issues, and is currently Chair of the local branch of the Workers Education Association. He is a retired highway engineer who mainly worked in local government giving him an insight into transport, planning and the workings of local government.

If elected, Mike’s particular interest would be housing. He says; “CBC has performed badly in requiring developers to provide enough affordable housing. I would be arguing for more social housing and for more genuinely affordable homes, so our children are not forced to move away from the area when they leave home.”

Christy Melon

Christy has lived in Leighton Buzzard for 22 years and has two boys attending local schools. She has worked in a special needs residential school for the last 22 years, is a Unison member and part of 'Stand up to Racism'. She joined the Labour Party in 2017 and has become a passionate and committed active member.

Christy says; “I am very concerned with the increase of poverty and homelessness on our streets, the cuts to the NHS and the poor state of our schools and education system. I am also personally concerned about the lack of help and support for children on the SEN list, and the lack of accessibility to services for children on the autistic spectrum, mainly based on a postcode lottery.”
